ICANN revokes accreditation of botnet suspects

ICANN has revoked the license of Russian registrar NameForName. The reason for the revocation is the fact that the company's owner is wanted by the FBI.

The company's owner, Andrey Taame, has been placed on the FBI's wanted list and is accused of creating a botnet based on the DNS Changer malware.

In total, NameForName managed five second-level domains.

The FBI believes Andrey Taame was part of a criminal group that committed fraud by creating the DNS Changer virus. This scam earned the group over $14 million over four years.

Using the DNS Changer virus, attackers created a botnet and infected a large number of computers. Among the victims were computers installed at NASA.
