ICANN calls DNS redirection destabilizing

ICANN believes DNS redirection is destabilizing for the internet. According to the organization's representatives, DNS redirection and other methods of domain substitution in new and existing gTLDs and ccTLDs contribute to problems, including phishing and the spread of viruses.

A redirect is used, for example, when a DNS error occurs due to a non-existent address being entered. In this case, instead of notifying the user of the error, the user is often redirected to another domain.

This type of redirection leads to hackers exploiting it. They redirect traffic to their own servers, which they often infect with malicious code. Furthermore, redirection can compromise a user's privacy.
