ICANN will not register the Cyrillic domain .БГ.

ICANN's president confirmed that the organization has no plans to allow Bulgaria to obtain the .БГ domain extension. The reason for the refusal is that the domain is too similar to Brazil's .BR domain.

Over the past two years, ICANN has rejected Bulgaria's application for the .БГ domain twice. This is due to its similarity to Brazil's domain.

However, all surveys of Bulgarian internet users indicate that the majority expressed a desire for the country to receive the .БГ domain. Alternatives—.БГР, .БЪЛГАРИЯ—were not popular.
