ICANN has preliminarily approved an Arabic-language domain for Jordan.

The number of domain zones written in national alphabets is growing. Late last week, ICANN finally delegated four domains in national languages, including the Cyrillic domain .РФ.

ICANN has also given preliminary approval for the use of Arabic script in the domain extensions of Jordan and several other countries. Thailand, Tunisia, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and Palestine have also received preliminary approval for the use of non-Latin domain extension suffixes. Similar requests from China and Taiwan are undergoing technical review.

If approved, the Internet will receive another Arabic-language domain name, along with the domain zones of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
