ICANN voted to introduce new domains for businesses.

At a meeting in Singapore, ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) voted to introduce trademark-matching top-level domains. This means large companies can apply for domains whose names match their trademarks. Domains like .apple, .ibm, and others may appear online.

Experts are confident this service will be in demand. Applying for a new domain costs $185,000.

ICANN has all the necessary tools to ensure that it does not create confusion when introducing new domain names.

For now, applications from individuals and sole proprietors will not be accepted.
