There are more than 233 million websites on the Internet.

Netcraft has published its latest data on the number of websites on the World Wide Web. According to the company, there were 233,848,493 websites online in November. This is 212,000 more than in October 2009.

On average, the number of web resources grows from 1 to 2 million sites. Netcraft specialists attribute the slowdown to a lull in user and business activity during the pre-New Year and Christmas periods.

A report from Netcraft noted that among web servers serving websites, the Russian web server Nginx is the absolute leader in subscriber base growth – in one month, its audience grew by 1.3 million new sites, reaching 12.9 million projects.

The Apache server powers 13.3 million websites, and over the past year, the server has lost 4.7% of its market share. Over the past year, 47 million new websites have appeared online, and 7 million are actively being updated.
