There are 676.9 million websites operating on the Internet.

According to the monitoring company Netcraft, as of April 1, 2012, there were 676 million websites and blogs on the Internet, which is 32.6 million or 5.1% more than the previous month.

The authors of the Netcraft report analyzed the popularity of various web servers. According to the researchers, Apache showed the most significant growth among software web servers. In March 2012, it increased its number of servers by 22 million, meaning its market share will reach 65%.

The number of websites served by the Nginx server also grew this month.

Netcraft's report states that the new Windows Server 8 operating system has not yet found widespread use, with only 278 sites currently running on it.
