Investors recommend AOL sell its patents
AOL shareholders believe that the company should take advantage of its patent portfolio and sell at least some of the patents included in it.
Experts estimate that the value of this patent portfolio could exceed $1 billion. Market analysts confirm the timeliness of this move for the company and believe that patents can fetch significant profits now.
The proposal was initiated by investment fund Starboard Value LP, which owns 5.2% of AOL shares.
Commenting on their proposal, the fund's representatives said they were "concerned that the company remains extremely closed and unresponsive to programs to increase its own value, trying instead to focus solely on pursuing its status quo."
Recently, patent wars have been waged primarily around mobile technology patents. However, Yahoo! recently filed patent claims against the social network Facebook.
