Iran Declares Dating Sites Illegal

Dating websites will be illegal in Iran. A crackdown on them has already begun online. The activities of such websites have been deemed contrary to Islamic morality.

And website owners are accused of matchmaking. Under the new law, dating site owners will face prosecution.

The country has long been fighting websites containing illegal content. Access to more than 5 million pages of "immoral and antisocial content" has been blocked. This definition includes some American and British media outlets.

The Chinese government plans to implement similar filters. Furthermore, the country has significantly tightened its rules for registering domain names by individuals.
