IPv6 usage is growing worldwide

Akamai Technologies has released a report stating that the use of the new version of the IPv6 protocol is increasing in all countries around the world.

According to a report from Akamai Technologies, IPv6 penetration on the internet has been increasing in recent months.

In the fourth quarter of 2011, there were more than 628 million unique IPv4 addresses on the Internet from 236 countries. This is 2.1% more than in the third quarter of 2011 and almost 13% more than in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Experts from Akamai Technologies note that over 600 million unique IPv4 addresses represent over 1 billion internet users. This is due to the fact that in some cases, multiple individuals can be represented by a single IPv4 address.

On the other hand, it's important to remember that individual users can have multiple IPv4 addresses. The depletion of IPv4 address space continues in 2012.

It should be noted that the implementation of the IPv6 protocol at the beginning of 2012 is much more active than in 2011.
