IDNs can be registered in the Italian .IT domain

The Italian national domain .IT now allows registration of domain names with characters from the national alphabets of Italy, Germany, and France.

In the first five hours after registration began, approximately 8,000 names with characters from national alphabets appeared in the domain.

In the first five minutes, 19,000 applications for multilingual .IT domains were submitted.

As a reminder, at the end of 2010, the Italian .IT domain surpassed the 2 million registration mark.
