Cybersquatter sentenced to 5 years in prison
US resident Daniel Goncalves was sentenced to 5 years in prison for stealing the P2P.com domain.
After Goncalves took possession of the domain, he used eBay.com to sell it to a former NBA player for $121,000. The buyer was unaware that the domain had been stolen from its true owner.
Goncalves was arrested in 2009 after the owner of the P2P.com domain, along with New Jersey police, tracked him down.
Goncalves pleaded guilty, becoming the first squatter to be sentenced to prison for his crime.
