China received national domains

ICANN has delegated two internationalized top-level domains (ILDs) written in Chinese characters to China. The corresponding records have already appeared in the IDN root zone.

The difficulty in delegating national domains to China is that the country uses two scripts for the Chinese language: standard and simplified. China planned to be the first country to receive an IDN top-level domain. However, the domains that were ultimately granted were the Russian Cyrillic domain, as well as those of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
