Chinese domains under threat again

The country's authorities plan to de-delegate a number of .cn domains. The country's largest providers, HiChina and Xinnet, are expected to take on this responsibility.

It is planned to discontinue the delegation of domains for which the registration process has not been fully completed. A domain may be delegable if the requirements for its registration were not met according to the recently amended rules.

The new rules require that the domain owner meet in person with a representative of the registrar company. Furthermore, anyone wishing to obtain a domain must submit documents with .

The end of domain delegation is planned for April.

In addition, Chinese authorities previously prohibited foreign companies from registering domains in the .cn zone.
