The number of websites decreased in June
According to research firm Netcraft, the number of websites online fell by 31 million in June, down 31 million year-on-year. The total number of websites that month reached 665 million, or 665,916,461.
The decrease in the number of sites can be explained by the removal of cross-site content on the servers of AmeriNOC (-30 million), Axoft Groupo (-10 million), and Tailor Made Servers (-8 million).
Because these hosting services operated under the Apache web server, this server saw its server base decrease by 39. Overall, Apache's market share fell to 61%.
All other hosting services showed positive growth in their databases, in particular, Microsoft IIS increased its database by 1.5 million hosts, and nginx and lighttpd servers by 950,000 and 800,000.
