The number of websites on the Internet has exceeded 628 million.

According to analytics company Netcraft, there were 628 million websites online at the end of July—628,170,204 to be exact. This is 38 million fewer than the previous month.

The drop in domains is due to Netcraft's clarification of its website inclusion criteria. Specifically, the company excluded approximately 40 million websites located on just 242 physical IP addresses.

As a result, the Apache web server suffered the largest loss of sites, losing approximately 36 million hosts during the reporting period. As a result, the share of sites processed by the server now stands at 59%. Other servers from Microsoft, Google, and Nginx increased their relative market share.
