Masterhost and Reg.ru officially announced their merger.

Two leaders in the Russian domain and hosting market, Masterhost and Reg.ru, have officially announced their merger.

The legal form of the merged company is still unknown. It has only been reported that in the future joint venture, Masterhost will be primarily responsible for the technical aspects of the new company's operations, while Reg.ru will handle marketing support and organizational matters.

Currently, the companies jointly administer over 20% of .RU and .РФ domain names. Both companies have over 500,000 clients.

Explaining their decision, the company executives stated that the goal of the merger would be to create a new major brand for which the Russian market is ripe. The stronger the brand, the more trust it will have from the end consumer. And such trust is especially important in the domain and hosting markets.

Furthermore, according to company representatives, the market is currently shifting from a highly specialized to a mass market, so companies need new, high-quality customer service that only a major market player can offer.
