Facebook has purchased six domains for its Open Compute Project.
A few weeks ago, Facebook launched its Open Compute Project. This project is designed topopularizationenergy-efficient and cost-effective data centers. As part of this project, the company published the specifications for its data center infrastructure, providing information on new server types developed by the company's engineering team.
The company previously reported that its goal was to create infrastructure at a minimal cost (24% cheaper than similar products) and more energy-efficient.
In addition to the main domain opencompute.org, which hosts the project's website and was purchased back in December 2005, Facebook has registered six more domains, thus insuring itself against potential problems with squatters:
OpenComputeProject.com
OpenComputeProject.net
OpenComputeProject.org
OpenComputerProject.com
