RIM has taken over someone else's trademark.

RIM recently launched a new mobile operating system, BBX, but it later turned out that the BBX trademark belongs to another company.

This could lead to serious legal problems for RIM. The BBX trademark is owned by Basis International, a software development company based in Albuquerque.

Basis management is preparing to sue RIM. RIM has previously been asked to discontinue the BBX name in its product names. The plaintiffs are expecting a response by October 31st, and if it is not positive, the company is preparing to file a lawsuit.

RIM stated that they had not received any letters from Basis International and emphasized their right to the BBX name by saying that RIM and Basis International operate in different business segments.
