Verisign reported its financial results for the second quarter.

In the second quarter of fiscal year 2010, Verisign reported revenue of $168 million, up 4% from the previous quarter and 9% from the same quarter in 2009. Earnings per share were $0.24, compared to $0.18 a year ago.

The company's primary revenue came from providing domain name registration services in the .COM and .NET zones. Over the year, the number of registrations in these domain zones increased by 9%. In quarterly terms, these domain zones demonstrated 13% growth, and in absolute numbers, 7.9 million new names were registered in these domain zones.

As a reminder, Verisign increased the cost of registering new domains in the .COM and .NET zones by 7% and 10%, respectively, as of July 1st of this year.
