Odnoklassniki is interested in short addresses.

Short domain names have always been highly valuable and relatively expensive. Internet owners have become especially interested in short addresses with the advent of Twitter and the mobile internet. It's obviously much easier to type, for example, fb.me on a mobile device instead of Facebook.com. Furthermore, a short domain allows you to embed links in Twitter posts without the need for additional URLs.

Besides the social network Facebook,having receivedshort domain name at the beginning of this year, short domainboughtsocial network "VKontakte".

The Yandex portal has long hosted a lightweight version of its website on the Ya.ru domain, and Rambler on R0.ru.

Last week, it became known that the social network Odnoklassniki was also interested in purchasing the Ok.ru project.

This domain previously belonged to Zenon, a hosting company. The ok.ru domain hosted the company's clients' websites and email services. Zenon also hosted email services on other domains, id.ru, go.ru, ru.ru, and quake.ru, where it provides free email. The company also provided virtual hosting, domain name registration and support, and other services.

It's noteworthy that Odnoklassniki decided to purchase a short name in the .RU domain zone, rather than follow the established path of other services registering short names in the .ME or .CC domains. This decision by the site's administration likely stems from its positioning as a project intended exclusively for a Russian-speaking audience.

Experts believe the OK.RU domain will cost Odnoklassniki quite a lot—we're talking about tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, despite the overall decline in the average transaction price on the Russian secondary domain name market.
