Cryptocurrency cards from Weld Money and Binance

Fintech startup Weld Money has launched a cryptocurrency card, the Weld Card. It is the first card issued in Ukraine for everyday legal crypto transactions.

Binance also announced the launch of its crypto card for Ukrainian users. It is planned to be available by the end of 2022.

Fintech startup Weld Money recently launched a cryptocurrency card, the Weld Card. The project was implemented in partnership with Mastercard and Unex Bank.

Previously, Weld Money, together with Unchain Fund and Unex Bank, launched the Unchain Help Card project, issuing the world's first virtual charity card to help Ukrainian women and children during the war. Priority categories include single mothers with newborn babies and large families with children under 6.

Weld Money was founded in 2020. Since its launch, the startup hasn't attracted traditional investment. Instead, it sellstokens- digital shares of the company.

  2. Citizens of Ukraine aged 21 and over can become cardholders.

  5. Additionally, the client can order the issuance of a plastic card (physical medium) at an Unex Bank branch.

  1. To do this, you need to be verified on the Diya platform, which uses modern customer identification technologies, in particular Diya. Subscription.
  2. The next step is to fill out the application form of Unex Bank's banking partner.
  3. Next, you need to connect to a convenient exchange using API keys to link your crypto wallet to the exchange through the Weld Money system.
  4. After this, the system will automatically transfer funds from the wallet to the card account.

Which exchanges does Weld Card work with?

  • WhiteBit is a European centralized cryptocurrency exchange based in Ukraine. The standard trading fee here is no more than 0.1%. The daily fee for using funds in margin trading is 0.098%. The withdrawal fee depends on the currency type (full details are available on the company's website).
  • With Huobi, a well-known cryptocurrency exchange based in China, the withdrawal fee is 0.0001. Taker fees are 0.20%, and makers are 0.20%.
  • Plans to establish cooperation with the Binance, KuCoin, and EXMO exchanges are also known.

What currencies does Weld Card support?

  • Weld Card currently accepts payments with USDT and USDC stablecoins, dollar-backed cryptocurrencies that are protected from exchange rate fluctuations, and DAI.
  • According to the project's initiators, volatile cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others will be added soon.

How can I pay with this card?

  1. To pay for a purchase, you need to place your smartphone with a digital card (or a smartwatch that supports Google Pay or Apple Pay) on the PoS terminal.
  2. The bank freezes the required amount in the user's balance on the crypto exchange and transfers it to Weld Money's corporate account. In other words, it sends the money to the merchant using the user's credit limit.
  3. The Weld Money system then converts the required amount from the cryptocurrency balance into hryvnia and repays the credit limit.
  4. The transaction is completed within four seconds – the cardholder receives their product or service.
  5. Weld Money will close all overdrafts on customer accounts once a day.

Binance Exchange Plans 

According to Kirill Khomyakov, General Manager of Binance in Ukraine, the company plans to introduce the card by the end of this year.

"We were planning to do this even earlier, but the war made its own adjustments,"— reports the head of Binance Ukraine.

According to him, the company has been focusing on its charitable projects for the past seven months. Now, there's an opportunity to resume work on issuing a Binance crypto card for Ukrainian users.

What is known about the Binance crypto card 

  1. The card will be directly linked to the registered Binance user's cryptocurrency wallet.
  2. When making a payment, the cryptocurrency stored on it will be automatically converted into fiat funds.

Aid to Ukraine from the Binance blockchain ecosystem

  • Binance Charity has committed 3.375 million BUSD in a pilot program to provide cryptocurrency cash assistance to Ukrainian refugees and IDPs.

  • Binance Charity is donating $1 million in BUSD to provide scholarships for the IT Generation educational project.
