Alternative registrars may appear in Latvia

Latvia's leading domain registrar, NIC, has decided to delegate the authority to register .lv domains to private companies. Previously, the country had only one domain registrar. For nearly 20 years, residents could only obtain a domain through NIC.

Experts believe the emergence of alternative companies in this market could have a positive impact on the industry as a whole. Furthermore, the cost of registering .lv domain names is expected to decrease.

On average, more than 1,500 new domains are registered in the .lv domain zone every month, and there are more than 80,000 domain names in this domain zone in total.
