LG Electronics wins patent case

South Korean company LG Electronics has won a patent dispute with American home appliance maker Whirpool Corp.

Whirlpool accused LG Electronics of infringing on several technologies. These technologies were related to the production of refrigerators and freezers. Specifically, the patents described a method for preventing ice buildup in freezers.

Whirlpool representatives claim that LG illegally used these technologies in its refrigerators. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ruled that Whirlpool's claims were insufficiently substantiated and could not serve as grounds for blocking sales of LG appliances in the United States.

However, Whirpool can appeal the decision and file an appeal to a higher court.
