IT market leaders are accused of violating software activation patents.
Uniloc USA filed a lawsuit against major companies. Its representatives filed claims against Sony, McAfee, Activision, Quark, Borland Software, and Aspyr Media, accusing them of infringing patents related to software activation.
The founder of Uniloc USA emphasizes that he patented software activation technology back in 1996. The patent specifies that an activated program is bound to a specific personal computer. This prevents users from running multiple programs on a single computer. This patent was obtained to protect the company's products and developments.
Last year, Microsoft paid a $400 million fine to Uniloc. The company filed the lawsuit against Microsoft back in 2003.
