Madrid bids for the .madrid domain

The city of Madrid, the capital of Spain, is applying for the .madrid top-level domain extension. The application for this domain was submitted by the city council. At the same time, city officials appointed the official domain administrator, PuntoMadrid.org.

Madrid is the second capital city to submit this type of domain registration application to ICANN. In 2006, the Spanish province of Catalonia expressed a similar desire to obtain the .cat top-level domain.

Madrid authorities believe that the .madrid domain zone will be intended for individuals and businessmen residing in the country's capital.

A domain registration form is already available on the PuntoMadrid.org website, although the city has not yet been assigned a domain extension. This will also allow us to determine potential user demand for names in this domain extension.
