What is 4P?
The 4Ps is a model that helps companies control and optimize the key marketing factors for any product, whether it's an item or a service. These include:
- Product – what your product is. Characteristics, appearance, quality, product variety, etc.
- Price – cost of the product, promotional offers, discounts, markups;
- Promotion (advertising) – a plan for promoting a product, purchasing advertising, offers to stimulate sales;
- Place – where and how a business produces its products and interacts with customers.
This strategy emerged and gained popularity back in the 1960s, and has since become one of the most widespread. But to use it effectively, you need to understand what to pay attention to in each step and how to integrate them into a coherent whole. Let's explore each aspect in a little more detail.
Product. Get to know your product.
First, of course, you need to create it. But chances are, if you're interested in promotion, you already have something to work with, even if you're only at the idea stage. This first step is the foundation, because you need to delve into it andunderstandThink through every detail of the product you'll be working with. Otherwise, you'll be stuck with inaccuracies, like a writer who didn't bother to flesh out the characters. Here are some questions you need to answer first:
- What is your target market?
- What is the size of this market;
- what is in demand and has value in the market;
- What unique thing will you bring to the market and how will you distinguish yourself from your competitors?
A detailed analysis can take quite a bit of time, but the results are worth it. If you don't have the time to do it in detail yet, try to at least sketch out a general picture with your best guesses. This will give you a starting point. You can then refine this section as time, need, or desire permit.
Price. Set the price
Setting a price can be difficult, especially for newcomers. You don't want to go cheap, but you want to make the product accessible to your target audience—after all, that's (or should be) the main goal of any company. Here are some questions to help you determine your pricing:
- What expenses that are not obvious at first glance should be covered by the price of the product (supplies, staff, distribution of goods, etc.)?
- At what price can you make a profit?
- Can your target audience afford this product?
- What is the price of a similar product from your competitors?
- How does your product or service differ from those of your competitors? Does it cover more needs, and is it of higher quality?
- How will the price of the product be perceived in the market?
Regarding the third point: how exactly can you ensure the price is acceptable to your target audience? The best option is probably to ask. Conduct a survey among your target audience. What you need to find out:
- At what price point do you begin to doubt the quality of the product?
- What price is optimal for you, what would you consider a good deal?
- At what price would you consider a product expensive?
- What price would completely turn you off the product?
Another option is to try searching for answers to these questions online. You can do this among your target audience on social media or in reviews of similar products. But be careful here, as people rarely express satisfaction with a price online without a reason. They're more likely to get something in return (read about crowdfunding marketing).Here). But if you're lucky, you might stumble upon a product discussion; it's a good resource for valuable information and honest reviews.
Promotion. Define a promotion strategy.
This section refers to any possible promotional tactics that can be used to convey your thoughts, ideas, and products to your target audience. The basic ones include advertising, social media, and blogging.websiteKey questions for promotion:
- Whose attention do you need to attract and why?
- How do competitors handle this point?
- What it will look like in theorypathyour client?
- How much money do you need to achieve your goal and what kind of team do you need?
- What can you fill in?marketing funnel?
Place. Find the right location to sell your products.
Make sure customers interested in your product can easily purchase it. Whether it's offline or online, consider how the purchasing process will work for you (team, delivery, etc.) and for the customer (how accessible the purchase will be across all possible criteria).
- Where and how do your competitors sell their products?
- How can we ensure a comfortable customer experience during the purchase process and support after the purchase?
- Do you need a team at your retail locations: consultants, salespeople, etc., or do you prefer self-service/online sales?
