The International Olympic Committee plans to file lawsuits against ICANN, the organization responsible for the Internet's domain name system. The lawsuit may stem from the IOC's failure to adequately protect trademarks registered in gTLDs.

According to IOC representatives, ICANN should place registered trademarks on the list of reserved names. If this does not happen, the IOC and National Olympic Committees are preparing for legal action.

The IOC raised this possibility after ICANN published new proposals for the gTLD Applicant Guidebook. ICANN did not respond to the IOC's comments regarding this document. The IOC demanded that all trademarks be reserved, including "Olympic" and "Olympiad," which the organization has held for over 100 years. Furthermore, the IOC believes it is necessary to block identical domains that could mislead users.
