Microsoft and Casio signed a patent agreement

The agreement provides support to Casio customers using Linux in certain devices.

Microsoft Corporation and Casio Computer Co. Ltd. have entered into a broad, multi-year patent licensing agreement that, among other things, provides Casio customers with a patent portfolio for the use of Linux in certain Casio devices. This licensing agreement continues the long-standing relationship between the two companies.

Casio uses a wide range of Microsoft software for its products, including industrial handheld terminals and information systems.

“We are pleased to reach an agreement and see recognition of the value of our patent portfolio, particularly as it relates to operating systems,” said Horacio Gutierrez, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel of the Intellectual Property Group at Microsoft.
