Microsoft accused Motorola of infringing its patents

Microsoft has filed a lawsuit against Motorola, accusing it of illegally using Microsoft technologies in smartphones running the Google Android platform. The lawsuit alleges infringement of nine Microsoft patents covering functions for synchronizing various data, including email, organizer entries and contacts, meeting scheduling, and more.

It is possible that the patents currently being challenged in court are related to the functions of the corporation's new mobile platform, Windows Phone 7, which will be presented in a week in the United States.

A few weeks ago, Google received complaints from Oracle regarding the Android platform, which accused Google of misusing the Java programming language in Android.

It's noteworthy that Microsoft filed its complaints not against Google, but against Motorola. While Motorola isn't the largest Android manufacturer, it recently abandoned the Windows Mobile platform, and has now abandoned Windows altogether.

In its lawsuit against Motorola, Microsoft does not mention financial compensation; it is possible that the corporation will seek a ban on the sale of such phones in the United States.

Currently, Microsoft's share of the mobile platform market is 6.8%.
