Motorola defeats Apple in patent dispute

Motorola Mobility has won a lawsuit against Apple in a patent dispute.

The court found Apple guilty of infringing two Motorola patents. The disputed patents relate to data packet transmission technology in mobile networks and methods for exchanging messages between devices.

Technologies based on the disputed patents were used in Mac computers and iOS mobile devices.

Despite this, Motorola Mobility failed to secure an injunction banning sales of Apple devices in Germany. Notably, Apple is represented in this country by two companies: Apple Inc. and Apple Germany. Despite filing a lawsuit against both companies, Motorola only won its case against Apple Inc., which does not sell devices.

As a reminder, Apple was able to secure a ban on sales of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Germany.
