The OpenNIC organization has begun accepting applications for domain name registration in the .PIRATE domain.

The domain was created at the initiative of the Canadian Pirate Party. You can apply for it at dotpirate.me.

OpenNIC is an organization that manages an alternative DNS server network. It supports established domains, as well as several of its own. The .PIRATE domain will serve as an alternative to the existing internet and will be designed for sites that support the free exchange of information without regard for copyright.

OpenNIC was founded back in 2000 and currently manages the following domain zones: .BBS, .DYN, .FREE, .FUR, .GEEK, .OPENNIC.GLUE, .GOPHER, .INDY, .ING, .MICRO, .NEO, .NULL, .OSS, .PARODY.
