Registration has begun for IDN Syria.

A few days ago, the National Agency for Network Services (NANS) announced the launch of registration for the Arabic top-level domain (سورية). This domain allows institutions, companies, and individuals to register their website names in Arabic.

NANS Director General Maher Suleiman stated that registration will take place in two phases, the first of which began on March 15 and will end on June 15, 2011. Registration requires following specific rules, which are published on the NANS website.

According to Suleiman, the first phase will involve reviewing applications for Arabic domain registrations. Those who submit applications will receive free domain maintenance during this phase, which will be considered a trial period. However, to facilitate the resolution of potential domain disputes, applicants will not be entitled to full control of their domain until the trial phase ends.

Full domain use will be possible once all disputes are resolved at the end of the trial period. After registering a domain name, domain owners will have one month to pay the registration fee.
