An application for the .Moscow and .Москва domain zones will be submitted at the beginning of the year.

Residents of the capital and companies operating in Moscow will be eligible to participate in the priority registration period for the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domains. Applications for the domain zones will be ready by mid-February 2012 and then submitted to ICANN.

These domains are planned to be received under the New gTLD program, applications for which will be accepted by ICANN from January 12 to April 12, 2012.

The delegation of the first domains approved under the New gTLD procedure will take place at the end of 2012. This means that priority registration of names in the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domains could begin as early as early 2013.

It is expected that the cost of registering names in the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domains will be affordable, at least not significantly higher than registration in the .РФ and .RU domains, which currently costs 600 rubles.

Some names in Moscow's domains will be reserved for the needs of federal and Moscow government agencies. About 100 second-level domains in Moscow's domain zones are planned to be reserved for the subsequent opening of preferential registration of third-level names.

Only ICANN-accredited registrars will be able to provide .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domain name registration services.
