The eight millionth name registered in the UK's national domain, UK, has been confirmed. The milestone domain, which became the eight millionth, is LambethSuperHomes.org.uk, owned by a London-based real estate agency.

The UK domain celebrated its previous anniversary a year and a half ago, in August 2008, when 7 million domain names were registered.

Meanwhile, the growth rate of domain names in the UK zone has slowed. Last year, domain growth was 13%, compared to 8% in 2009. And the domain renewal rate this year was 69%, compared to 70% in 2008.

The UK domain is more popular among Britons than the .COM domain. According to research by Nominet, the administrator of the UK domain zone, 77% of British residents prefer to browse websites in the UK domain zone rather than .COM when searching for information online.

The UK domain ranks third in the list of top 10 national domain zones by number of registrations.
