France's national domain turns twenty-five years old

At the beginning of September, the French national domain .FR celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of the appearance of the .FR domain record in the DNS root.

In 2011, the rules for registering .FR domains were simplified. Until recently, only French residents, local companies, and international organizations could register their names there.

Following the introduction of new rules, all residents of the European Union – individuals and legal entities – were able to register domains here.

In addition, the .FR domain now allows you to register names with national alphabet characters (IDN).

In April of this year, the .FR domainsurpassed the 2 million registration mark.
