ICANN has given preliminary approval for the use of domain names in national languages. This means that websites with addresses not written in Cyrillic may become freely accessible as early as this year.

The first countries to receive this permission were Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Russia. These countries may allow websites with URLs written in Arabic or Russian characters to appear.

The preliminary decision was made after extensive discussions and debates, as well as a series of technical tests. Thus, the division of the internet into Latin and non-Latin languages ​​is becoming a reality.

As a result of this ICANN decision, Russia will receive the Cyrillic domain name .РФ, and other countries will indicate the short name of their country as their national domain – "misr" (Egypt), "emarat" (Emirates), and "assaudia" (Saudi Arabia).
