The Pirate Bay torrent tracker has become an alcohol brand.
The name of the well-known torrent tracker The Pirate Bay will soon be associated with alcoholic beverages. A man named Colin Scragg has won a trademark dispute for "The Pirate Bay" in the alcoholic beverages category. This means Scragg will be able to use the name "The Pirate Bay" for this purpose.
Scragg discovered that The Pirate Bay trademark was unregistered, so he decided to take control. In addition to producing alcoholic beverages, Scragg plans to open a Pirate Bay restaurant in Gothenburg.
Back in August 2009, after legal proceedings against the owners of The Pirate Bay began, Scragg attempted to launch a rum of the same name, simultaneously filing an application to register the trademark "The Pirate Bay." However, the trademark registration was opposed by a Scottish company, the owners of the Captain Morgan brand. In its protest, the company claimed that the name "The Pirate Bay" was similar to its trademark "Parrot Bay."
