New gTLD program may be delayed

ICANN's top management does not rule out the possibility that the New gTLD program may start later than planned.

ICANN is not yet completely certain of its future. It's possible the organization will delay accepting applications for new domains.

However, such a decision by the organization will deal a serious blow to the domain industry.

The US authorities, including members of Congress, have expressed opposition to the New gTLD, believing that the introduction of new ones will lead to large additional costs for trademark owners.
