A German company is suing Rapidshare.

The German film distribution company Senator Film Verleih has sued Rapidshare, accusing it of copyright infringement and illegal distribution of the film "The Reader."

The lawsuit was preceded by a demand that Rapidshare management publicly declare that the film would no longer be hosted on the company's servers. Rapidshare administration stated that hosting the film did not violate copyright.

One of the arguments given by Rapidshare employees is the impossibility of searching for a movie on the site. Files posted on Rapidshare are not accompanied by keywords. You can download a file from the site's pages only by receiving a direct link to the download page.

Therefore, the Rapidshare administration believes that the copyright is not violated by the service, but by the user who posted the link to download the file in public mode.

At the same time, the plaintiffs believe that Rapidshare representatives did not do everything possible to protect the link from free access, for example, the link to Rapidshare is very easily found using the Google search engine.
