The new gTLD will not lead to an increase in the number of domains
The launch of new top-level domains could significantly reduce the number of trademark disputes, as the New gTLD program, under which the launch is taking place, envisages the creation of an unlimited number of domain zones and their availability, relatively speaking, to everyone.
According to ICANN President Rod Beckstrom, the introduction of new domain extensions will reduce the number of people seeking unique domain names. Beckstrom believes this will also expand the internet's reach to non-English-speaking audiences, as it will allow for the use of other characters in domains.
There are currently 21 gTLD domain zones on the Internet, such as .COM, .NET, .GOV, and .INFO, as well as about 250 national top-level domains, such as .RU, .UK (United Kingdom), or .AU (Australia).
The final decision regarding the implementation of the New gTLD program will be made at the ICANN international meeting, which is currently taking place in San Francisco.
