Nigerians will be provided with free domains.

The Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA) will give away 50,000 free names to local businesses and residents. This promotion will run until March 21, 2011. The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is funding the project.

Currently, only two thousand domain names are registered online, and this campaign will help develop the NG domain. NITDA also plans to offer special web development courses for young Nigerians.

However, there are a few caveats to this promotion. First, you'll need to pay a fee to renew these domains, and domains that have been in use for six months will be deleted. Furthermore, free domains will be limited to .com.ng, .org.ng, .name.ng, .mobi.ng, and .sch.ng extensions.
