New domains may appear in the fall of 2013

According to ICANN, new top-level domains could appear as early as fall 2013. This data is presented in the company's report on the timing of the delegation of the first new domain zones.

Domain names are currently being reviewed for similarity, compliance with DNS stability principles, and similarity to geographic names. Applications will be reviewed until next summer.

Analysts note that 90% of applications require follow-up questions to be reviewed. Most of these, they believe, will fail the initial assessment.

ICANN is currently processing 342 applications, which are being reviewed by the organization. As a reminder, a total of 1,930 applications were submitted to ICANN.

Warnings regarding "disputed" applications will be published before the ICANN meeting in Beijing in April 2013.
