The total number of applications for new top-level domains has exceeded 2,000.

ICANN has not yet announced the exact number of domains in the New gTLD program. However, ICANN Chief Operating Officer Akram Atalla reported that at the time of the outage, 2,091 applications were pending in the New Top-Level Domain Application System (TAS). Another 214 applications had been registered but not paid for.

As a reminder, the system was shut down due to a technical glitch several hours before the application deadline on April 12, 2012. For this reason, ICANN suspended accepting applications for new domains.

Tomorrow, May 8, 2012, ICANN plans to complete sending notifications to applicants who may have been affected by the TAS application software outage.
