Civil society organizations oppose the .XXX domain

The public organization Morality in Media has recently called for an investigation into ICM Registry's violations of federal laws prohibiting the distribution of hardcore pornography on the Internet.

"News that pornography is now available in the .XXX domain has prompted calls from Morality in Media for an investigation into ICM Registry, the administrator of the .XXX domain, for possible violations of federal laws prohibiting the distribution of pornography on the Internet."

"Sections 1462 and 1465 of Title 18 of the United States Code prohibit the distribution of hard, obscene pornography on the Internet. But isn't that precisely the purpose of .XXX?" commented Morality in Media representatives.

"Furthermore, Title 18, Section 2, of the United States Code, prohibits aiding and abetting a federal crime, and Title 371, Section 371, of the United States Code, prohibits conspiracy to commit a federal crime. Attorney General Eric Holder should immediately review ICM Registry's activities in light of these federal criminal statutes," they add. "The creation of the .XXX domain will only lead to an increase in the distribution of internet pornography."
