Opera uses "green" data centers
Opera Software, the developer of the popular Opera browser, actively uses "green" technologies in its data centers.
One of the company's largest data centers, located in Iceland, uses 100% renewable geothermal energy. Furthermore, 80% of the energy consumed by the new data center in Seattle (USA) is renewable.
The average renewable energy use rate across the data center network increased to 65% in 2011, and is planned to increase to 80% in the next two years. This will be achieved by transferring some server operations to new energy-efficient centers.
To serve every million Opera Mini users, Opera servers consume an average of 3.7 kWh of energy (in 2008, this figure was 5.7 kWh).
