Orange operator shows interest in the domain industry
Telecom operator Orange became a Platinum Sponsor of the 42nd ICANN meeting, which took place in Dakar on October 23. This company, which has no connection to the domain industry, paid $75,000 to become a Platinum Sponsor.
Some market experts have speculated that Orange may have taken this step in connection with its intention to apply for a top-level domain with its brand name in the name.
Also sponsoring the ICANN conference were VeriSign, which has traditionally served in this role, and the Public Interest Registry, which is currently promoting its application for the .ngo domain, intended for use by non-governmental organizations.
