Redistribution of the Russian domain market

Analysts have called the deal between RBC and Ru-Center a major market event. Thanks to the deal, RBC, or more precisely its subsidiary Hosting Community, increased its share of the domain name registration and hosting market in RuNet.

It is planned that Hosting Community will become the sole owner of all assets of the Ru-Center group, and all future activities of Hosting Community in the field of domain name registration will be carried out on the basis of Ru-Center.

Despite the scandal surrounding registrations in the .РФ domain zone, Ru-Center not only maintained its value but also proved to be an attractive resource. The decision to acquire the company was made even before the investigation into the scandal began.

It is also unclear who will now be responsible for Ru-Center’s actions during auctions.

However, it's worth remembering that Ru-Center offers more than just domain name registration; it also provides hosting. Together with RBC Hosting Center, Ru-Center is one of the five largest Russian hosting providers.

Thus, by acquiring Ru-Center, RBC could become the market leader in both registration and hosting. This means the company will be able to dictate terms, including pricing. Analysts have praised RBC's acquisition of Russia's largest registrar, as it means the company now owns both the largest registrar and a merged company that will become the hosting leader.

Analysts do not rule out that this deal could be followed by others, in particular the purchase of smaller hosting companies.
