Poisk@Mail.Ru: What crises are worrying Russians?

Poisk@Mail.Ru (http://go.mail.ru), which processes approximately half a billion search queries from RuNet users every month, has determined which crises and crisis-related topics are of greatest concern to Russians, and has also identified the interests of people of different genders and ages.

As expected, the top two spots were taken by the financial and economic crises, respectively, which, given the challenging national and global situation, overtook the perennial issue of the midlife crisis. It's worth noting users' concern about environmental issues—the crisis rose to fourth place. Rounding out the top five are Cold War history buffs interested in the details of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Incidentally, this isn't the only influence history buffs have on the rankings. The Berlin Crisis ranks 16th, and the dynastic crisis 14th.

However, parents who are concerned about crisis moments in their children's lives are much more active. The ranking includes crises during the first (11th), third (6th), and seventh (10th) years of life, as well as the crisis of adolescence (18th).

While financial, economic, and historical crises are more common among men, the most "feminine" concerns are childhood crises, as well as relationship and family crises. Men aren't particularly concerned with these issues—of all the social and psychological issues, only the midlife crisis seems to interest them at all.

An interesting pattern emerges when looking at the distribution of queries by age. Users aged 13-18 know about crises only from textbooks, and therefore show interest exclusively in the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Berlin Wall, and dynastic crises. Relationship crises are the most pressing concern for those aged 19-25. For those aged 26-34, this is replaced by family crises, with interest in childhood crises becoming particularly prominent. Meanwhile, those aged 35-49 show a high level of concern about midlife crises, and the share of queries about financial crises is also highest for this group.

Regarding the "crisis" topics of interest to users, their rankings show a fairly high level of business activity. The question "what business to start during a crisis" ranked first. Second most popular were advice on passing a job interview during a crisis. Third place went to the query "where to invest during a crisis."
