IPv6 popularity is slowly increasing
Support for the new IPv6 internet protocol has grown nearly 20-fold in a year. This is thanks to an active campaign promoting the new protocol. However, despite this, most websites are only accessible via IPv4 addresses.
Let us recall that the free address space for IPv4 ran out back in early 2011.
Over the past year, the number of websites in the .COM, .NET, and .ORG domains that support IPv6 has grown by more than 1900%, but it still does not exceed 5% of the total number of websites.
Only a quarter of networks hosting .COM, .NET, and .ORG sites are technically accessible via IPv6. Last year, the percentage of such networks was only 1.27%.
Of the total number of websites, only about 1% of projects have a significant volume of IPv6 traffic, and among mail services, only 2-3% support the new protocol.
